The 400-year-old Hanamaki Festival is held around the 2nd Saturday of September ( Friday through Sunday ) . The main event is a parade of magnificently decorated floats, with children playing taiko drums in front of the floats. At night, the lanterns on the floats are lit up. You can also see various local dance performances such as shishi-odori and kagura, as well as over 150 portable shrines. At the Hanamaki Gymnasium, the Hanamaki Festival Specialty Products Fair is held, and at the Nahan Plaza in front of the station, the Performing Arts Festival is held. There are also food stands serving various items: local specialties such as Platinum Pork, as well as international delicacies such as Korean food and German sausages. Enjoy the classic festive atmosphere, with fun activities such as a haunted house, a shooting booth, and much more.
