The Esashi Fujiwara Heritage Park is a historical theme park built to resemble a Heian period (784-1185) Japanese town, with such a convincing historical depiction that the park has been used in film and tv shoots. Located in Oshu City, the birthplace of Kiyohira, founder of Hiraizumi, the park includes many historical Hiraizumi landmarks, such as a replica of the Golden Hall, and recreations of Muryoko-in Temple and Yanagi-no-Gosho. Cherry trees, azaleas, water lilies, hydrangeas, and bush clovers also add splashes of color to the sizable park, which can be explored in about two hours. You can also enjoy Iwate produce and specialties in the on-site restaurant, and with an advance booking, they even offer a Heian-style re-enactment meal.
