On the Sanriku coast, it is common to store raw sea urchin in milk bottles with seawater, and ``bin-don'' was born from this unique style. This is an experiential gourmet dish where you can pack Miyako's seasonal ingredients into milk bottles and eat them over other rice. It is offered at several stores in Miyako City, and each store offers a unique version of ``bin-don''.

Hei River Mountain Stream

The Hei River, which originates from Mt. Kabuto Myojin on the Kukai Highlands, is the largest river in the prefecture that collects large and small rivers and flows into Miyako Bay, and is a treasure trove of river fish such as sweetfish, char, and yamame trout. As a mecca for mountain stream fishing, it is crowded with Taikobo from early spring. There are parts of the old national highway that are now used as nature trails, and many people visit during the season of fresh greenery and autumn leaves to enjoy the scenery that spreads out before their eyes. Suneka of Yoshihama

A small New Year's ritual held on January 15th every year. Suneka, a straw man wearing a strange mask, goes around the houses in the area, praying for the healthy growth of children, a rich harvest, and a bountiful catch. The origin of ``suneka'' is said to be ``sunekawa taguri'', which is used to peel off the skin of the skin on the shins, which is caused by being too lazy to be around irori during the cold winter. The gestures and appearance that warn against lazy or crying children are very regional. The Yoshihama Suneka Preservation Society carries out activities to pass on the history of Suneka, such as lending costumes to children in the area. It was designated as a national important intangible folk cultural property in 2004. On November 29, 2018, "Visiting Gods: Gods in Masks and Costumes," including "Yoshihama Suneka," was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Kesengawa

Originating from Mt. Goyo, the upstream area is home to sweetfish and yamame trout, while the downstream area is home to many dace and gobies. In spring, you can eat live whitefish, sweetfish fishing opens in July, and salmon fishing begins in October. Mountain streams and rough waters are suitable for the growth of sweetfish, and the best fishing methods are the Kesen River's unique korogashi, blackfish, and tomo fishing, with the peak season being from August to September. Season: 3/1-5/31, 7/1-9/30 (yamame trout/char), 7/1-11/30 (sweetfish)

Parasitic tree exhibition room (inside Yamaguchi Community Center)

The model for the main character of Roka Tokutomi's novel ``The Parasitic Tree'' was Zenpei Ogasawara, a native of Yamaguchi, Miyako City. His belongings such as the original notebook for Parasitic Tree and love letters are on display.

Hayasaka Highland Visitor Center

A seasonal panel display of wild plants from the Hayasaka Highlands. They also sell soba mochi, skewered mochi, and dengaku tofu.

Kitayamazaki Visitor Center

At the Kitayamazaki Visitor Center, you can try making shell crafts such as straps, photo stands, and candles using beautiful shells. There are also walking paths and information boards around the building, so you can easily experience nature. We also accept reservations for Sappa Ship Adventures.
