Kyassen Ofunato is a commercial complex featuring restaurants, shops, live houses and more. It opened near the JR Ofunato Station in 2017, an area that suffered severe damage in the March 2011 disaster. Some 50 tenants do business in Kyassen, mainly shops. The name “Kyassen” means “Welcome to our establishment” in Iwate dialect. It is also a focus of exchange between local residents and tourists.
