The Kamariba restaurant and bar hub in Kamaishi opened in 2017 in the aim of reviving the drinking and dining district devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake Disaster. The name “Kamariba” is a hybrid of the local words for meeting place, “katariba” and “tamariba” and “kamaru”, another made-up word meaning “come to Kamaishi”. It is a hot spot for dining and related activities.
