Mamebu is made with flour and a little salt kneaded with some water, then cut up into thumb-size pieces, then stuffed with walnuts and black sugar. This is a traditional delicacy of Kuji’s Yamagata district that is made to pray for a person’s health and safety. They most often appear on festive occasions such as the local festival or at New Year’s.
