Hyuzu is a traditional local snack and is made from a rice flour dough wrapped around sweet miso paste or Japanese black sugar. Hana hyuzu takes its name from the fact that the turned-up edges of the dough look like petals. Handmade by an old lady living in Haratai, the secret ingredient is kindness and warmth. Other offerings include plum daifuku and chestnut sweets.
