Kokusekiji Temple is a Tendai sect temple originally established in 729 and rebuilt in 849. To see the Sedentary Image of Yakushi Nyorai, a national important cultural property, you must contact the temple in advance. In February, a dynamic festival called “Kokusekiji Somin-sai” is held, in which men pour cold water on themselves to pray for rich harvest and to drive away ill fortune. The men are divided into 2 groups, and they compete to grab the “Somin Bag” which is supposed to bring good luck. There is a soba restaurant in front of the temple gate.
