Muryoko-in Temple Remains

無量光院跡(平泉町)

Muryoko-in Temple was commissioned by Hidehira, the third Fujiwara lord to rule Hiraizumi. The official histories recorded at the time by the Kamakura Shogunate describe the temple hall at Muryoko-in, and its garden, as perhaps the largest and finest in Hiraizumi, but today only portions of the garden, the temple earthworks, and some foundation stones remain.

(Designated a special historic site by the Japanese government)
