Kanjizaio-in is believed to have been commissioned by Lady Fujiwara-no-Motohira to stand beside Motsu-ji, the temple her husband sponsored. Like Mōtsū-ji, it is exemplary of Pure Land gardens designed to mirror the scenery of paradise. Unfortunately, the temple was lost to a fire in 1573, and the land subsequently converted to rice paddies at one time, but the worship hall and one of the two former Amida Halls, as well as the garden pond, have since been restored. Today, it is a serene historical park, perfect for walks or quiet moments. It also hosts local events throughout the year.
