Oshu Traditional Industries Museum “Cupola Museum”

奥州市伝統産業会館 キューポラの館(奥州市)

Cast ironware of the Oshu area was originally developed about 900 years ago, by the Fujiwara clan under whom the Golden Culture flourished. There are about 60 cast ironware workshops in the area. When making ironware, iron sand is heated in a melting furnace also known as “cupola.” The Cupola Museum contains many materials on Nambu Cast Ironware, such as Nambu Tekki masterpieces, dolls reenacting the production process, etc. You can also buy cast ironware products, such as wind chimes and ornaments. During the Oshu Nambu Tekki Festival in early July, admission is free and products are sold at 40 % off.
No photos in the facility.
