This is the largest fireworks festival in the Morioka area, with a history of over 30 years. Morioka is the only prefectural capital in Tohoku where a 30-cm firework ball is launched in a firework festival; this is made possible because of Morioka’s vast natural environment. The festival is full of impact, both visually and aurally; the dark sky is lit up with colorful fireworks, and the booming sound echoes through your body. It is held in early August by the Kitakami River, near the Tonan Ohashi Bridge. Over 100,000 people flock to the river to see 10,000 shots of fireworks, but you can also see and hear them from various places in the city. Admission is charged for a part of the venue ( 300 yen to 1,500 yen ) . There will be special parking lots for the festival, but since traffic is expected to be heavy, you may want to use the free shuttle bus from JR Iioka Station or Morioka Central Wholesale Market.
