Ugoku Tanabata Festival / Kesencho Kenka Tanabata Festival
うごく七夕まつり / 気仙町けんか七夕まつり
On August 7, the Ugoku Tanabata Festival is held, in which 12 groups parade through the city with their decorated floats. The paper lanterns become lit as the sun sets, creating an ethereal atmosphere.
After the festival, the floats are displayed at the Michi no Eki nearby. On the same day, in Kesencho, Rikuzentakata, another Tanabata festival is held; in this 900-year-old festival, 4 floats crash into each other dynamically, spurred on by the taiko drum beat.
