This is one of the largest outdoor museums in Tohoku, with reconstructed buildings that depict the village life about 100 to 300 years ago. There are 29 old houses and buildings, including the Former Kanno Residence, a national important cultural property. The museum is divided into 4 zones: the Folk Village Introduction Zone, the Nambu-Date Fief Boundary Zone, Kitakami River and Local Houses Zone, and Jomon Period and Ancient Remains Zone. The Kitakami City Museum and the Kitakami Buried Cultural Property Museum are also located on the premises. There is also a workshop where you can try making local crafts.
