The Nakatsugawa River runs through the heart of Morioka, flowing into the Kitakami River. Every autumn, you can see salmon which swim from the Nakatsu to the Pacific to grow, and return to the river to spawn. In summer, you can enjoy ayu ( sweetfish ) fishing ( fishing ticket available at local bait and tackle stores ) . You can also enjoy a scenic walk along the river.
